Jesuit Retreat House - Catholic retreat center for religious retreats

Bishop Roger Gries @ JRH
March 8, 2010

Video edited and shortened for time purposes.

Most Reverend Roger Gries, O.S.B., auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland, spoke at the second Lenten luncheon at Jesuit Retreat House.  The event took place March 8 from 11:30am-1:30pm and featured an opening prayer service, lunch, and the bishop's talk.

Bishop Gries spoke to a full house of 55 people in the main chapel of JRH on the healing power of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  His point: going to confession is vital for spiritual health because it returns us to the wholeness of a loving relationship with God.  He said Reconciliation is when "God hugs us," when one gains "that recognition that God loves me and wants me to be a part of God's life."

The audience was clearly touched by the bishop's storytelling and witness.  One guest said "I am a lifelong Catholic and have never heard Reconciliation described so beautifully."  Jesuit Retreat House director Sr. Mary Ann Flannery, S.C. described the talk as "an enlightening update on the importance of Reconciliation and the theology behind it."

The third and final Lenten luncheon of 2010 will be held on March 22 and will feature Sr. Christine Rody, S.C., member of the diocesan tribunal, who will be speaking on forgiveness and redemption in the marriage annulment process and in life.  Register.
