Day Retreat, Monday,Feb. 6, 2012

Forgiveness: the heart of the Gospel.  Jesus, as Savior, gave his life for the forgiveness of sin for all time. He asks that we be willing to give pardon to those who sin against us. Why is this so hard for us, and what is the difference between forgiving and forgetting?

Retreat begins with coffee/pastry at 9AM. Program begins at 9:30 and ends before 2PM.  The day will include Mass and a healing of memories service. Cost is $25.

Praying with the Gospel of Mark
Beginning in February!
Day or Evening Series

The Gospel of Mark is generally regarded as the earliest gospel and is sometimes called the Gospel of the Suffering.  Using Fr. Daniel Harrington’s writings on this gospel, we will  discuss many concepts, particularly the place of suffering and spirituality  We will learn how to use the gospel for prayer.

JRH will offer this compelling study as a three part series.  The cost is $50.00 per person for the series and you can bring a friend free for all the sessions you attend.  Yes, it’s a two-for-one offer!  Select the series that best suits your busy schedule!

Morning Series:   Tuesdays, Feb. 21, Feb. 28., and Mar. 6.  Begins at 9AM with coffee and pastries, concludes by 11AM.

Evening Series: Mondays, Feb. 27, March 5, and March 26.  Begins at 7PM with coffee and refreshments, concludes by 9PM.

Lenten Luncheons at the Jesuit Retreat House provide sacred space to gather for a home-cooked meal and prayer.  Spiritual and intellectual nourishment is fostered by presenters who inspire, challenge, and delight.  Luncheons begin with prayer at 11:30am and conclude by 1:30PM.  Cost is $25 per luncheon.  Register for all three, or one at a time, here.

 The 2012 Lenten Series will include:

 February 27.  Care of the Soul: Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life with Fr. Donald Cozzens.              Fr. Donald Cozzens is Writer in Residence and Adjunct Professor of Theology at John Carroll University in Ohio. A priest of the Diocese of Cleveland, Cozzens has served as spiritual director, counselor, and retreat master for monks, nuns, priests, and    bishops.   As vicar for clergy and as president-rector of Cleveland’s Saint Mary Seminary led to his best-selling and award winning book, The Changing Face of the Priesthood (Liturgical Press, 2000).  His latest books are Faith That Dares to Speak (Liturgical Press, 2004) and the award-winning Freeing Celibacy (Liturgical Press, 2006)

 March 12.  Care of our Relationships: Seeing the Sacredness of Our Conversations with Rick Krivanka.    Rick Krivanka has served as Director of the Pastoral Planning Office for the Diocese of Cleveland since 1979. For more than 20 years, Rick has worked to create life-giving conversations in all  facets of human relationships and organizations.  He will share some of his greatest lessons from that work.

 March 26.  Spirituality and Growth in Lent with Yvonne Pointer.  On December 6, 1984, Yvonne Pointer’s beloved 14-year-old daughter,  Gloria, was   abducted, raped, and brutally murdered.  That horrific episode in Yvonne’s life catapulted her into the role of a local, national and international activist, working tirelessly toward safer communities for all.   She is author of “Chicken Soup for the African American Soul.” To experience Yvonne is to be touched in a deep and lasting way.  Her powerful personal   impact is recognized across communities, across party lines, and across oceans.  To learn more about the life and work of Yvonne Pointer, please visit www.yvonnepointer.com.

In God's Image -Created as Radical Events of God.  Presented by Sr. Mary Ann Weisemann-Mills, O.S.P.  Cost is $325. 

In his book, FOUNDATIONS OF CHRISTIAN FAITH, theologian Karl Rahner SJ declares that “each of us is an event of the free, absolute, and radical self-communication of God.” We are all created “happenings of God.” This retreat will focus on this truth through the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. 

About the Retreat Facilitator

Sr. Mary Ann Wiesemann-Mills is a member of the Dominican Sisters of  Peace. She received training as a retreat/spiritual director at the Jesuit Renewal Center in Milford, OH and continues to serve as both a spiritual director and retreat preacher as time allows.

Each May the Jesuit Retreat House hosts a benefit dinner celebrating the ministry of Ignatian Spirituality as it resides in the Cleveland community.  Since 1893, the Jesuit Retreat House has been an anchor for those who desire a deeper relationship with God through experiencing the Exercises of St Ignatius.   Hearts on Fire benefit dinner provides necessary resources for the house to continue her vital ministries.  

This year at Hearts on Fire, the Jesuit Retreat House will honor four dynamic leaders who bring Ignatian Spirituality to the hearts and minds of young people.  We invite you to join us for an evening of delicious food, cocktails, and delightful people, as we honor Fr. James Riley, SJ, Paula Fitzgerald, Jodie Bowers, and Augie Pacetti for their outstanding work with young people.

Living Prayer: My Life in God
6-week retreat for Lent
Praying with St. Ignatius is an adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises that is conducted over the course of 8 weeks. The retreat presents the graces from all four Weeks of the Spiritual Exercises and leads retreatants to experience God’s merciful love, grow in a heartfelt knowledge of Jesus, and enter into his passion, death and resurrection.

Living Prayer: My Life in God is a retreat-in-daily-life introduces you to a diversity of prayer practices, which encourage a deepening relationship with God.                  

The theme of the retreat is based on St Paul’s exhortation on Gratitude: "Rejoice always, never cease praying, render constant thanks; such is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.     ~1 Thes 5:6-18
