Terry Pluto @ JRH
February 22, 2010

Terry Pluto, award-winning sports and faith columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, spoke at the kickoff event for a Lenten luncheon speaker series at Jesuit Retreat House.  The event took place February 22, 11:30am-1:30pm, and featured an opening prayer service, lunch, Pluto’s talk, and book signing.

Pluto spoke to a full house of 65 people in the main chapel of JRH on the Lenten theme of forgiveness.  His point: letting go of grudges unburdens the soul and frees the spirit to flourish.  Pluto said “Lent is not only about giving up things we like to eat.  It’s just as powerful, if not more so, to give up some of the stuff we’re carrying around.”

According to Jesuit Retreat House director Sr. Mary Ann Flannery, S.C., Pluto’s witness to the healing power of forgiveness resonated with the audience.   She said “Terry was dynamic and to the point for the audience that was there.  He touched them, he got to them.”  After the talk, Pluto took time to greet people, sign their books and share conversation with them.

The Pluto luncheon marked the first of three luncheon talks this Lent at Jesuit Retreat House.  Click here for more information.
