Our Retreat Directors July 16-23
Fr. Pat Peppard, S.J., a Jesuit for 40 years, Fr. Pat has taught speech, drama, English and theology in Jesuit high schools. He has directed retreats for lay people and women religious and priests in Michigan and Ohio since 1973.
Fr. Jim Farrell, S.J., a native Clevelander, was ordained in 1946 and was immediately engaged in administration and teaching at Jesuit High Schools in Chicago and Detroit. In 1973 Fr. Jim returned to Cleveland to serve at JRH until 1980, the last three years as director. He has done retreat work at two other Jesuit retreat houses, Loyola of the Lakes near Akron and Manresa Retreat House in Detroit. He returned to Cleveland in 1994 to once again take up his retreat ministry at JRH. He is popular as a director of conference retreats and individually directed retreats.
Fr. Joe Scharf, S.J., spent 13 years in Nepal, India teaching science before returning to the U.S. where he taught at St. Ignatius and St. John’s Toledo high schools. Since 1991, Fr. Joe has been giving the Spiritual Exercises and doing spiritual direction at the Jesuit Retreat House. Fr. Clem Metzger, S.J. – Director of Jesuit Retreat House joined the JRH team in 1999. He has been a high school teacher at St. Ignatius and Walsh Jesuit high schools, a prison chaplain and pastor of Gesu parish in Toledo.
