Sr. Mary Ann Baran, SND is a spiritual director and a certified lay ecclesial minister in the Diocese of Cleveland. On the staff of Collinwood Neighborhood Catholic Ministries, Sr. Mary Ann ministers to the elderly and poor in addition to her retreat and spiritual direction ministries.
Sr. Mary Ann Burke, SND served as a Pastoral Minister at St Joseph Parish, Amherst, for eleven years after being certified by the Cleveland Diocese in 2005. She also served on the Sisters of Notre Dame Chardon Leadership team from 2005 – 2011. In 2006, Sister was certified as a Spiritual Director/Retreat Director through the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University. In 2011, Sr. Mary Ann completed a 40 Day Institute in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises which included a 30 day retreat at the Jesuit Center in Guelph, Canada. In 2014, she attended and participated in the Summer Practicum in Spiritual Direction also in Guelph.
Patrick Cleary-Burns is a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University and holds a BA in Theology and MA in Pastoral Ministry, both from Boston College. Sr. Peggy Duffy, OSU is a member of the Ursuline Congregation in Cleveland, Ohio, is an experienced spiritual director and retreat minister. She is a graduate of Creighton University’s Christian Spirituality Program and presently does ongoing spiritual direction at the Ursuline Educational Center and directs retreats at various retreat/ renewal centers. Sister Peggy has served in both the Cleveland and Youngstown Dioceses and brings a rich background in education, theology, pastoral ministry and all facets of parish life.
Sr. Marian Durkin, CSA received certification in spiritual direction from the Ignatian Spirituality Institute of John Carroll University. A member of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Sr. Marian has co-directed a weekend retreat for gay and lesbian Catholics annually since 1999. In previous ministries Sr. Marian was a teacher and administrator in the Cleveland diocesan schools for almost 30 years and after leaving the school system did ministry with persons who were HIV-positive for 15 years. In 2001 she was elected to the leadership team of her congregation where she served for 8 years.
Carol Gyorki‘s educational background and experience are in catechetics, psychology and counseling (addiction). As a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University, she has companioned people in retreat experiences and in spiritual direction over the past 10 years. She is especially interested in working with women who are seeking greater intimacy with the living God. Carol is married and has two adult sons and six grandchildren.
Liz Nau is a Spiritual Director and retreat leader with over 25 years’ experience leading retreats. She is called to companion others as they walk more deeply into their faith and to help others know and experience God’s love and Christ’s presence in daily life. Her interests are in Ignatian Spirituality, the spiritual disciplines and especially prayer: art as prayer, prayer walking and the gift of silence. Liz is a retired United Methodist pastor, and is a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University. She has graduate certificates in Formational Counseling at Ashland Theologyical Seminary. Lis lives in Shaker Heights with her husband, Dave, and has three grown children and one new granddaughter. She loves to spend time with family, travel, hike, write and enjoys being on the water with Dave.
Fr. Matt Roche, SJ is a full-time spiritual director at the Jesuit Retreat House. A native of Lancaster, Pa., he entered the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 1973 after graduating from Villanova and doing additional graduate work at Colgate University and Fordham University. He was ordained in 1981. After ordination he did fund-raising for Jesuit missionaries abroad and for the care of the sick and infirm elderly Jesuits at home–as well as for the education of Jesuit seminarians. He studied theology at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Ma. and journalism at Syracuse University. He worked as a parish priest at St. Anthony’s in Oceanside, N.Y. and at St. Francis Xavier in Manhattan. He spent 9 years at Mt. Manresa Retreat House on Staten Island. He has been doing spiritual direction for 33 years.
Sr. Mary Ann Spangler, HM is a sister of the Humility of Mary, comes with many years of educational and retreat/spiritual direction experience. She obtained her Masters Degree at Kent State University and spiritual direction certification from the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University. Sr. Mary Ann is presently a full-time spiritual companion to young adults on college campuses focusing on prayer, relationships, discernment and transitions in life.
Fr. John Vrana is a native of Cleveland and was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Cleveland in 1967. He studied at St. Paul University in Ottawa, Canada and at the Katholike University te Leuven in Belgium where he earned the degree, Doctor of Sacred Theology. He was assigned to teach at Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland. During his eighteen years on the seminary faculty he also served as Spiritual Director. He is currently on staff at St. Michael’s Parish.
